The effects of COVID-19 on our mental health

COVID-19 has had an unbearable impact on so much over the course of the 2020 - whilst it directly affects our physical health and the economy, we also need to remember the impact it can have on our mental health.

Whilst it is important to stay up to date with the facts and figures regarding Coronavirus, we need to maintain a positive mindset in order to support and manage our mental wellbeing.

Across the entire nation, we’ve seen the majority of our freedom wiped away due to the virus and the nationwide lockdown which came as a result. So, how can we possibly be positive moving forward?

Within social distancing guidelines, we are in a position to be able to see family and friends, play sport and return to our day jobs. It’s important to understand that things aren’t normal by any means, but becoming trapped in a mindset whereby negative feeling takes over, you’ll soon find yourself stuck in a shell of depression.

Speak to your friends, play some sport, even catch some fresh air in the evening if you have time. All of these things can play a massive part in you boosting your mood.

As mentioned above, whilst staying up to date with the latest news on COVID-19, sometimes you have to take it with a pinch of salt. Use more reliable sources rather than indulging yourself in rumours and speculation. Everyone is more than entitled to having an opinion on the virus, no matter how negative it may be, but appreciate that not everything you hear is true.

Finally, try and stay connected to life. Although things are different, and things may well get worse in terms of another lockdown, but you have to stay connected to those around you. Do your utmost to maintain a positive mindset, and if you do struggle at any point, be sure to speak to someone who you feel comfortable with when doing so.

Ultimately, we are all in this together, so be strong, be vigilant and be safe.
